Book Orders
From time to time, I will send home book order forms from Scholastic. If you place an order, please do not send cash (unless it is for the exact amount of your purchase). Make all checks payable to Scholastic Book Clubs. ( I often send home both the primary and intermediate book orders. If you are ordering from both, you may combine the payments and write only one check.) You can also order books from Scholastic online. Please contact me if you would like our class code to order online. It usually takes about 1 week to get the books in after I order them.
Psssttt! Is your order for a birthday, holiday, or special surprise? Contact me and I will make arrangements for you to pick your book order up at the office or send it home with a sibling without your child's knowledge! : )

Behavior Plan
In D4, we strive to maintain an environment that is conducive to learning and that allows each and every student to feel safe and free to be themselves. To help us create such an environment, the students have a behavior plan that celebrates their positive choices in class, yet also helps them evaluate areas that might need improvement.
Each student in D4 has a behavior card that is kept in his/her desk. Students who do a nice job following class rules and completing tasks on time receive a stamp on their card at the end of each school day. About every two weeks, we have "Fun Friday", a 30 minute indoor recess, to celebrate the efforts of those who work hard to help maintain a positive learning environment in our class. (Each stamp earned during the week is worth three minutes of Fun Friday time.) Students earn their stamp when they have 0-1 checks on their behavior card for the day.
If a student has difficulty following class rules or completing tasks on time, I will generally give a verbal reminder the first time I notice it. If the behavior continues, I will put a check mark on the student's card along with a code for the specific behavior. (For example, "ut" stands for unnecessary talking, "lw" stands for late work, and "nfi" stands for not following instructions.) Students who only receive one check on their card for the day will still receive their stamp. (After all, no one is perfect! : ) Two checks in one day will result in a warning... the student loses his/her stamp for the day. Three checks in one day will result in the loss of a recess. Four or more checks in one day will result in a time out in a buddy room, a phone call home, or a visit with the principal, depending on the situation. The nice thing about the codes is that it allows students to monitor their behavior. If they happen to notice they have eight check marks for unnecessary talking in one week, they have a pretty good idea of what they need to work on!
Each day is a fresh start, so if a student happens to have a rough day from time to time, he/she always knows that they can turn it around the next day and earn that stamp (and therefore some Fun Friday time)! Students will also have multiple opportunities each week to earn tickets for prize boxes, which we do occasionally during Fun Friday. Tickets can be earned by demonstrating our school-wide rules (Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible) and other random acts of third-grade greatness. : )

Birthdays
Each student’s birthday is a special occasion in our room! If a birthday falls on a school day, we will celebrate that day. If a student’s birthday falls on a Saturday, we will celebrate the Friday before, and if it falls on Sunday, we will celebrate the Monday after. If a student’s birthday occurs during the summer months, we will celebrate the last week of school. Every birthday will be recognized and celebrated!!
Students may NOT bring birthday treats or party invitations to school. This is a district policy. Please do NOT send cupcakes, party hats, invites, etc. Birthday celebrants will receive a special gift from the teacher!
